What does proclaim the favor of your Lord mean?

"And proclaim the favor of your Lord"

[Qur'aan 93:11]

A group of scholars have said that this Verse does not mean that you go around telling people of that which Allaah has given you. They say the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) did not do this. Rather, the meaning of the Verse, according to them, is that you are to be grateful to Allaah for the blessing and make apparent its effects. When Allaah blesses you with wealth, you should be grateful to Allaah and increase in spending on the poor. They say to proclaim your blessing is an indirect expression for spending generously, feeding the poor, and helping those in need of help. And Allaah knows best.
