Repel evil with good

'Anas bin Maalik was asked about the Tafsiir of the following Verse of the Qur'aan:

And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.

[Qur'aan 41:34]

Thereupon he said:

الرجل يشتمه أخوه فيقول : إن كنت صادقاً فغفر الله لي ، وإن كنت كاذباً فغفر الله لك

A man is abused by his brother [in faith], and thereupon he says: If you have spoken the truth may Allaah forgive me, and if you are untruthful, then may Allaah forgive you.
