Do not turn away from his Sunnah

If you want Allaah to love you, you have to follow the way of the Messneger of Allaah. You cannot invent your own forms of worship and think you are getting close to Allaah. You are not a Messenger from Allaah, and you do not know what pleases Him. He did not inspire you with the revelation.

He sent Messengers. They were sent to carry His Message. The final Messenger was Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). If you want Allaah to love you, you follow his Messenger. If you do not believe me then read and memorize the following Verse of the Qur'aan.

Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah , then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

[Qur'aan 3:31]

What does Allaah say? He tells His final Messenger to tell you that if you truly love Allaah you are to follow him [i.e. His Messenger]. In return, Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins.

The secret to proving that you love Allaah and to getting Him to love you is that you follow the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). And to follow him means to follow his Sunnah.

You never want to turn away from his Sunnah by doing that which opposes it. That includes extreme forms of worships which were never stipulated.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that some of the Companions of Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) asked his (the Prophet's) wives about the acts that he performed in private. Someone among them (among his Companions) said:

I will not marry women; someone among them said: I will not eat meat; and someone among them said: I will not lie down in bed. He (the Holy Prophet) praised Allah and glorified Him, and said: What has happened to these people that they say so and so, whereas I observe prayer and sleep too; I observe fast and suspend observing them; I marry women also. And he who turns away from my Sunnah, he has no relation with Me

[Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 1401]

O Uthmaan indeed I was not ordered with al-Rahbaaniyyah. Are you turning away from my Sunnah? He said: No O Messenger of Allaah. He said: Indeed, it is from my Sunnah that I pray, sleep, fast, eat, marry, and divorce. He who turns away from my Sunnah, then he is not from me. O Uthmaan, indeed your family has a right on you and your body has a right on you.
